Eric Otto, Collier parent, summarizes the results of the district's parent survey.  The survey was sent home with students through their schools. The results suggest that the majority of Collier County parents are satisfied.

Dr. Patton Earns High Marks

The Board gave our Superintendent a satisfactory rating, awarding her over 90% of the possible points in her Board evaluation. This evaluation has two parts: Performance Outcomes, and Professional Standards.

Every one of the 34 indicators moved in the negative direction. One of many concerns expressed by senior board members is the new members' interference with school district operations. The staff is burdened with special requests, and the new board members' constituents are being misled to believe they are entitled to select instructional materials. Below, Senior Board Member Julie Sprague suggests a course of action.

Federal Lawsuit Dismissed

In April, parent-attorney Cory Seegmiller filed a lawsuit, claiming the School Board infringed on his First Amendment rights. On June 8, a federal court judge ruled that all 5 counts had no merit. The plaintiff's attorney plans to appeal.

 

This is one of a series of legal challenges against the District, most involving the new board members' constituents.  The total cost of these challenges is estimated to exceed $100,000.
